Siding is ALMOST complete!

I finally got to see the exterior elevation selections come together!  It's 99.9% competed, we have a missing light on the garage and a tiny piece of shake missing from the gable, but it was so nice to see it all together instead of tiny swatches!  I really love how it looks and we are the ONLY house in the neighborhood with this elevation and without shutters, so it will be easy to spot our place!  I actually don't mind not having shutters, the look is very clean and modern with that cottage craftsman feel.  I also "broke in" to the house, lol, the garage code was easy to figure out, got it on my first try, lol.  I was walking through the house, not too much has changed since Friday, though i didn't expect it too!  Our PM said the punch-out guy will be there this week and boy, he has his work cut out for him!  There are all kinds of nicks, and holes and we'll say, less than desirable workman ship on the dry wall.  The walls are SOOOO rough and it's making me nervous, just all those little things that make a house lok complete look like a complete mess right now, but I have faith that it will look fantastic by May 31st.  I am almost hoping they "break" my tub so I can get the newer model, I got one of the old styles and it just isn't as big as I would like, they did kind of trash my master bathroom too, chipped a bunch of grout on the tile floors, that will certainly be the first thing I look at on the walk through ... we also still need back filled for the replaced egress window, my husband is pretty upset that we have a section of foundation that is block and not poured, and I totally agree, but every time I bring it up to RH they say it is fine, well, that may be but it looks HIDEOUS and it's not what was promised, which is a 100% poured foundation... am I crazy for thinking I should get what we paid for?  Should I complain and try to get some extras out of this??

  1. Looks great!
Hope everything inside comes together by 31st! 10 days...wow, getting really close! :-)
Its very weird that RH is saying "that's fine"?!? I would definitely complain.

    All the very best!

    1. I am not one for confrontation, but this isn't a sweater, or a pair of shoes, it's a house, a 30 year and expensive commitment! I want my husband to bring it up... it's too late for any upgrades, except a deck maybe, but at least get something, like $$ towards closing costs. I'm not not feeling like it's been a 10 so far, and they do tell you to let them know whenever they aren't being a 10 and they will make it right...

    2. $$ towards closing would be the best! Right?! Definitely try for some compensation. As you said it's huge deal and they better satisfy their customers. Yeah, I heard from other bloggers that the survey means a lot to them. If they want 10's from you they still have to earn it!!

    3. Can you post a picture of where the foundation should be?

  2. Love Love the colors. Can't wait to see more pictures. Did you do almond or white trim?
Since we did the same colors, I have been watching for pictures on your blog.
As far as our phase, we were the only Venice so far and there is only one other house in our community with this elevation, but they are far away from us and they have a side entry garage.
I love the character of this Elevation and it completely fit's E's personality!
We were even staying with this Elevation if we continued with the Ferncliff.

    1. Thanks! I'm happy with how the colors are turning out, we went with the white trim, it gave a nice contrast with the siding around the windows.

In our neighborhood, there are LOTS of Venices, we only have 6 models to choose from, the Rome, Milan, Sienna, Florence, Pisa Tore, and Venice, there is only 1 Pisa, lol, not a lot of diversity in the neighborhood, but I don't mind, I do love that we are the only house that will really look like this (so far at least!)

  3. I love your new sidings! I agree with what you wrote that having shutters somehow gives a modern feel into it. It's only 9 days until your target date, and I hope you won't be disappointed. I'm also thinking of getting a siding for our house since mine is also the only one without shutters in our neighborhood. I'll talk to my husband about it first; I hope he agrees with me. Haha!

  4. Keep on them and use the survey as pressure. Your home is lovely. Nice choices.

  5. It's really coming along and it looks good! The neighbors I have met so far have all been so nice. Wow just peeked at your counter, 9 more days! And I would maybe push a little on the foundation. They talk about 10 10 10, see if they mean it.

    1. Thanks Darla! Yeah, I can't believe it's coming down to the wire so soon! Our closing got moved up to the 31st, same day as our walk through, I wanted to close by the end of the month so we could move that weekend. Now hopefully they will finish in time! It just seems there is sooo much left to do!

  7. Your house looks beautiful! I would definitely press RH about the foundation...what is the worst they can say...no. I would present them with an offer, maybe "this isn't what we were promised, there could be potential problems down the road, we think it is worth $XX" I think if you tell them what you are looking for from them, they are more willing to work with you. Good luck!

  8. I think I would push them about the foundation thing too. They aren't going to give it up easily because it will cost them money but it should cost them because they made a mistake! Maybe hire an inspector to check it out and see what he thinks it's worth or at the very least, if he signs off that it's quality work and will hold up.

Great choices, looks fab! I like that elevation and would have liked it for our home but it was pricey and there were too many indoor upgrades that we wanted. Something had to go and that was it :(

    1. Thanks Kellie, it was inspected by engineers 3 times, once before they moved it, once after the cut the new hole and put the new window in place and filled up the old one, and one more time after they back fill it and seal it all up, but still, it just doesn't seem right to me, also the wall isn't flush in the basement now, the filled block part sticks out so it's going to cause problems when we go to finish the basement, I say we ask for a free finished basement...

  9. Rachel, definity push for something that you WANT!! You may have to ask over and over again!! And over again, trust me....I think they try and "make" you forget, but dont give up!!...I have had some smaller issues like that and not a lot of success with LARGE "here ya go we messed up"....please forgive me saying I dont think a finished basement is in your future, but as another blog said, have something in mind before you address them as to what you want........I dont care if its structurally sound or not, its NOT what you paid for and they CANT fix it.............so, what can they REASONABLY GIVE YOU IS THE QUESTION? Please keep up updated..

  10. I'm new to your blog! Your house looks amazing so far! It's got a country feel but yet very modern! We're building a Ravenna and we're breaking ground this week!!!! :) I definitely think you should complain about the block foundation. They may give you a few "extras" to calm you down ;)

  11. Your sidings look great, Rachel. A properly installed siding will provide your house with protection from bad weather and being waterproof at the same time. I believe you should really file a complaint against RH though since a poorly made foundation might cause problems in the long run. I wish you the best and hope you get your problems sorted out.

  12. How did it turn out Rachel? I hope the house turned out how you wanted it to. Your sidings look amazing, though! I agree with Saundra because those sidings will serve as protection and a way for the water to flow through during the rainy seasons.
