Too early to furniture shop?

I think the absence of Spring is making me a basket case, I am itching to get out of the house on the weekends to do well... ANYTHING!  I can't handle going to the mall though to shop for clothes because I can't wear any of it right now!  I've succumb to slothing around in raggedy old sweaters and salt stained uggs everyday (and I'm talking about my work attire here, at home it's even worse) I guess I just have the winter blues!  I need warmth and sunshine ASAP!!!  To all my bloggers who live in PA or the North East you feel me, right!?!?

So, to curb my appetite for shopping, I decided to check out some potential furniture options and bedding.  I hit up Macy's and Levin's and Restoration Hardware (insert Homer Simpson drooling sounds).  If I had all the $$ in the world, I would buy everything in RH, that store is me to the T!  I love the colors, the fabrics, the design, the eclectic warmth that everything in there brings, that touch of vintage glamour, but the price tags I just can't afford!  I do plan to buy some bedding from there though, a duvet and pillow shams (the sheets I will get at JCP with my Mom's discount :)

I found a sectional that I liked at Macy's, none at Levin's.  I just can't seem to find anything as far as dinning tables go for either the morning room or the formal.  I really need to take a trip out to World Market in Canton, OH.  I love so much of their stuff but they are about 1 1/2 hours away from me :(  I will need to do a big buy up there if I don't find anything local, I really need a large rustic table that I can fit 12 around for the morning room, I love the look of RH's tables but they are just out of my leauge in pricing!  I like being able to buy a table separate too and get chairs that are different for that collected look.

I have some pictures of the sectional as well as the bedding.  I am choosing the color "fog" for the bedding because it matches my kitty, Mr. Tickles so well!  Her fur won't show up as much and she is my little snuggle buddy, sleeps with us every night!  My poor husband who is allergic puts up with it too, he's such a trooper!  He loves her too though, even though he will deny it if you ask him!

This is the duvet I want to get, it's a paisley print in a gray "fog" color.  I was originally going to just get a solid linen duvet but I think that I need some pattern and interest in the bedding, I don't want it to look too bland.  Plus, I can pull colors from this duvet to pick my wall color.  The ladies at RH are going to help me pick out all the colors for the house (only I'm not using their paint :( it's too damn expensive!  But I will use their swatches and take it to home depot to color match!)  Hey, I'm still going to be buying expensive bedding and other accessories so I think they can help me pick out a few paint colors... lol

Here is the sectional, I like the camel color, it's not too dark and not too light, it will hide the wear and tear I think the best and still contrast nicely with the dark hardwoods we selected.  I am still searching for other options but this one was comfy and the leather felt nice, it's more expensive that I would have liked but I think that you pay for what you get, and the last "leather" sofa I bought was 3 years ago and it looks like hell now, and now I know the difference between top grain leather and bonded leather!  I learned the hard way though... not a cheap mistake!

  1. It's never too early to look! I've been dragging my husband through furniture stores the past two weekends. :) I hear you about the dining room furniture, every store we go to it seems like we would only consider two out of the ten tables they offer, and even then we choose one that's the best out of the selection, not actually one we LOVE. I love your duvet, simple and elegant!

    1. My husband doesn't go with me yet... lol but I will start dragging him closer to closing. Since we are closing around Memorial day, there should be some awesome sales we can take advantage of. He seems to hate everything I like though, I love rustic vintage with a touch of modern and he loves straight up modern, clean lines. I like the mix and match approach so hopefully he just gives in like a good husband should :) lol he trusts my design but I want to make sure he is happy too, it will be our home and our furniture and it's our money so I don't want to feel like I'm alone in the decision process. I'm hoping to get all the smaller accent pieces, like tables, lighting, smaller furniture pieces, at Home Goods or TJ Maxx, Marshalls, etc. it should help with the budget and keep that collected feel to the design. The hunt for the table continues on though, we will just eat on the floor until we find the perfect one :)

    2. We are the same way! He likes modern (and cold, hospital-like) furniture and I am more vintage/contemporary. I like warm and cozy. We want to get a rectangular table set with 4 chairs and then find two upholstered chairs to put on the ends. I've been searching Overstock.com for the fabric chairs since there are really none in any of the furniture stores we've been to. They have a lot of different kinds, it's just the whole shopping online thing I'm not a fan of, at least not for testing the comfort level of furniture! Good luck with your search!

  2. No it is not too early! I have hit Levin's, didn't see anything. I got some dining room chairs from Wayfair. I am using them with an existing table I have, hope it will look okay. I am going to try Sheely's. I have been eyeing a few things they have online and it is only about an hour from the 'burgh. I got a bedroom set on 'price hold', went to Sears Outlet Saturday for the fridge, I found the one I want but I am not ready to buy it just yet. I need living room furniture and furniture for our finished basement (that will be last. My husband and I have similar taste the only difference is I will get caught up in the look and he is all about the function.

  3. No way, it's not too early! It's good to look around and get ideas and see what is out there. I may check out a Marshall's to see if I can find any decorations. I even just go to stores and take pictures for ideas.

As far as taste I am exactly like you. And your hubby is exactly like my fiance. Ugh! So far we've had many discussions about decorating and have gotten nowhere!

  4. I love the bedding and sectional. I am going with gray in my master bedroom as well.

I have been searching for a dining room table for the morning room and have yet to find one that meet my needs. Happy furniture shopping.

  5. I disagree with it NOT being too early for furniture. I had bought some chairs and accent pieces that thankfully I could return because once I got in the house, it just didnt work! So please be careful!! you figure too you are buying these pieces months before hand so be careful of the return policy.

I hate to discourage you, I say go for some smaller accent pieces but wait on any large purchase...Jus my 2 cents worth from experience.

And Oh yes Rachel, living where we live right now is like Spring just got so LOST! It's terrible, I say all the time I am never excited to pull up to my house since its such a mess of a mudd pitt!

    1. I don't plan on buying anything until we actually move in, I just know that the sales are pretty much the same every time so I know what to expect when the stores have their "best sale ever!" because it's the same sale every time lol and since we won't be financing anything, I'm not worried about the special financing deals, I usually am able to get them to thrown in an extra discount since we plan to pay cash. I think the only thing I want to get is the bedding since there will be a sale on it next week at RH, a whopping 20% off, lol but it will be worth it. I just know it's giong to take me months to find furniture that I like and my husband and I can agree upon, I'm hoping to also save up some more cash in the mean time to splurge on a few pieces :) I also think I need a good retail therapy trip to Gabes to atleast pick up a few new cute spring dresses to satisfy my urge for a new wardrobe without breaking the bank!

  6. We are in the same boat. I keep finding new things I want for the new house(and the ground hasn't been broken yet). We have all of our stuff in a huge storage unit and I am driving my husband crazy asking how much room is left for more stuff.

    1. I know, Pinterest can be very dangerous! I love your selections for the house too! I wanted to get the handscraped but my husband doesn't like them :( atleast I did get darker floors though which is what I wanted. I wish we could have splurged on the granite and cabinets though, I wanted to do a non-standard cabinet but it was going to be just outrageously expensive, and in Pittsburgh, the base price of the homes are pretty high, and our taxes are rediculous, so we will have to do some of the upgrades later on after we get settled in. It will all be worth it! Your house will be done before you know it and you can make your OWN pins of your designs on Pinterest :)

    2. Rachael, I was just thinking about our prices the other day....someone had mentioned trying NOT to go over $210,000, I about fell off my chair, I knew our region was more expensive but I can only imagine what we could get elsewhere for the amount of money we spend here in southwestern PA. And our taxes are just unheard of anywhere else, or so I have been told!!

    4. Omg girl you have no idea how jealous I am of those people!! PA is expensive and our taxes are scary! Lol I had to forgo a lot and I still went over budget by 25k! If we lived in OH or the Carolina's oh my.... We would have every upgrade imaginable! But I'm still blessed to be building this house, all of our family is here and that's means so much to me I would live in a shoe box if it meant being near them, but I do wish our taxes were lower we would be blue to afford so much more house! I feel aweful for anyone in south fayette, their taxes are completely out of control!!! Not sure what school district you are in but Montour is actually pretty affordable when it comes to taxes (realatively speaking that is) thats one reasons we picked our community!
