I can't believe we have been in our house for 2 months now! Time really does fly, and this whole time I have been living without blinds!!! I have a few temp ones up in strategic places but it's about time to get some permanent ones in place. I don't know where to begin though, I don't know what style I want, if I want all the same, different ones in different places, faux wood, cellular, roman... there are so many choices! Since we won't be buy any furniture or decorating for about a year, it makes it SO much hard to decide! I would like to wait on the morning room because I think I just want roman shades, but I don't think I can wait a year until we get our new dining set to put up blinds, so I may just give in and go with the basic faux wood ones in every window... I would hate to pay for the installation and leave out some of the windows and then have to pay again next year to get those installed. Any thoughts? Place to go? I know HD is probably the best price, we can't afford to do custom, but my mom works at JCP and offered to "gift" us the blinds (she gets a good discount!) and they sell the Bali faux wood ones there, which are nicer than the home decorators from HD I think.
Also, bar stools... this is something that is cheap that we can buy now, in the Venice with the bar overhang into the morning room, how many stool can I fit?? I would like to fit 4 but is that going to be too tight? Any one else able to fit 4??
Also, they are replacing our railing today from the baby poop brown/green to black cherry, I LOVE the color of the sample piece of oak our PM brought, it looks PERFECT with the floors, so kudos to our PM for suggesting it and coming through on the replacement! We still can't use our master shower though, Rusmur won't be out until Sept. 10th to fix it!! In the mean time we are using the guest bathroom and shuffling back and forth from the master bath to the guest bath to get ready in the morning, it's a pain in the ass but I don't want to use the shower and cause any water damage so I will be patient. Rusmur is also going to come out and fix all the nicks and chips in our hardwoods, they said they do a MUCH better job than the punch out guys at fixing them, she said they will look brand new.
We also got our final coat on the driveway put in, we debated on having it extended, but to be honest, if wouldn't allow for any more cars to be parked, and it's plently wide for 2 sedans/SUV's to park in it and get our without stepping in the grass, and I don't want to loose 1 more inch of yard either, our tiny narrow lots can us all the grassy space they can get! To us, it just wasn't worth it, I'd rather have bar stools :)
I will post up pics of the new railings and also our master shower that needs repaired. Also, our grass is looking sad .... very sad, I think it's too late int he year to fix it, so we will just winterize and seed in the fall so it grows back thicker next year.
Dont worry..Our grass looks extremley sad too!!! We tried to seed it and fertilize it too, but there is no hope this year... Target has really great stools.. they just came out with a new fabric line and about 90 each ! We might be replacing our dark stools with something lighter !!
ReplyDeleteThanks! I didn't think to check them out, but I just looked and right now it's BOGO 30% off on the stools! I want to get all wood ones just because they will match whatever decor I decide on in the future of the house, and easy to clean! Do you know how many stool will fit under the bar??
DeleteWe have a set of 4 stools from target that have lasted through 2 moves (about to be a third). I think target has a bogo 30% off sale right now on their website. There's always ikea if you have one nearby and want some stools just to hold you over. Depending on the style, you may have to factor in seat cushions if they're not included.
ReplyDeleteEither way, figure out if you want a seat backing or not, padded or not, and at what height works best with your counter height. Our current setup around the kitchen island leaves limits the legroom and is uncomfortable to use if eating (the island counter is low while the seat is high). However, at our last place the seat height was perfect (and it should be for our future wetbar as well).
I fought for a few months about putting in blinds, I did not want our new house to feel "apartment-like" with ugly white mini blinds, but I finally gave in and we purchased white faux wood blinds from Lowe's. Levolor is the brand name, and to be honest, I actually like them. They do the job, and they don't look THAT awful. I still plan on putting curtains over them eventually, but in the meantime they keep the light and heat out and afford us some privacy.
ReplyDeleteOh, and I think each blind was between $35-40, we definitely saved some money there!
DeleteThanks Allyson! Yeah I don't want to be so builder basic but I will also be using drapes too so I figure the blinds probably should be plain and blend in, I plan to get some dramatic silk drapes for the dinning room that puddle on the floor, I think that should dress up the faux wood blinds!
DeleteHi Rachael. I just bought two stools at bed bath & beyond. That is all that will fit along my island. I am not sure if I will get stools for the overhang that extends into the morning room, it might be tight. As for the windows, I still have temps everywhere. I will probably try to save and get faux blinds and spend that money on the curtains. Glad you got your railing fixed!

Both have great deals on barstools and tons of styles.
I would definitely look at Target for the barstools. Ballard Designs and Frontgate both have nice stools, but expensive. Those stools would be the ones you want to keep.
ReplyDeleteI want to start looking for temporary blinds before we move in. Especially for the master bedroom.
If you do anything with the small window in the bedroom post a pic. I'm not sure how to handle this window.
I love my blind from Home depot, they are in my kids room and bathrooms. Other than that I have curtain, the entire back of my home needs nothing since there will never be anything back there but woods.
ReplyDeleteI say go with the faux blinds from HD or Lowes, i really like mine, I dont feel they look cheap in any way! Im just not that elegant of a person to spend tons of money on window treatments. I keep it simple.
Nothing wrong with keeping it simple.
I hear ya about the grass, it is now a losing battle, one of the communities biggest complaints is the grass!! Makes the neighborhood look like SHIT!
But RH is never gonna budge on helping anyone with their grass, so many people here have tried and its a no go!!!!
I got 2 leather counter stools from pier 1. They were $150 each. Not the cheapest out there but sturdy and comfy.
ReplyDeleteI know you lot would have found it hard to cope without yours truly at Britmums and rumour has it last years was a bit of a let down as I wasn't there to win any of the video game competitions but rejoice! Thanks to some kind intervention by Hilarys Blinds. curtains kent
ReplyDeleteWe installed the faux wood 2 inch blind. I think they all come will the trim work for the top. That is the only thing right now we have in our house and it looks really nice. We didn't do our morning room or sliding glass door. I want roman shade for in there. But those babies are pricey too!
ReplyDeleteWe had an independent contractor install our blinds for us. They were all custom measured. We had 11 windows total and it was 743.00 I believe. Plus they came with a lifetime warranty :) Lowes and home depot quoted us almost 1500 for custom. I love your wreath in your other post too :)
I was also tempted to not get them in the morning room b/c I too wanted roman shades... until I found out home much the cost!! HOLY COW! They are so expensive! We got our whole house (16 windows) with installation for $750.00 the woman at the check out gave us 10% off because I said I left my coupon at home! She was so nice! She was trying to find us all the discounts she could. We were going to look at a local installer but we knew the basic white would be just fine and they cut ours to fit perfectly at no charge, over all I'm very happy with them, and I'm going to be covering up most of them with drapes in the future so being so simple and basic I think they will go with any style drapes
