Garage doors and a beautiful view!

I stopped by the homestead on Saturday to find our garage door in place, and they excavated the back of the house to move the misplaced egress window.  Still not sure how all that will play out, I'm going to stop by tonight too just to make sure everything is going smoothly with it, I noticed a tear in the water proofing membrane so I'm hoping that gets fixed properly, I wouldn't want a wet basement after the first heavy rain!

I also went to Restoration Hardware and bought a duvet and shams, I'm debating on it though already, not sure how I feel about it, I choose a different duvet than I thought because I love the linen fabric and think it will look nicer if it gets a little wrinkled (which all duvet do).  I think I will return the shams though only because they are so damn expensive!!! I didn't realize until I saw my receipt, I will just do coordinating shams I find at TJ Maxx/Homegood/Marshalls.  I like mixing and matching anyways, it gives it a more custom and collected look.

So here are the pictures of the home progress and some nice views from the top of our lot, which is a nice semi-flat area that only me and my neighbor have, it's one of the reasons I picked this lot, I plan to have a garden up top and a fire pit with benches, and eventually, build a set of steps going up the hill :)

I love these doors!  They really give character and charm to the front of the house!
This land is our land... lol, but really, it's so nice to have this extra chunk of land to call ours :)
Looking down from the top of our hill!
View looking out to the right, it will be so pretty once the leaves come in on the trees!
Look Darla!  I can see your house from the top of our hill!  There were workers there on Saturday!  It's coming along nicely!
Looking back at the top of our hill, a nice view of the woods!  Very private, I love having this place to escape to :)

And here are the spoils of my trip to RH, it is the Italian Vintage Trellis Print, I love the rustic elegance of the print, the color is called Dune, I plan to paint the walls to coordinate, something in between the light color of the duvet and the darker mushroom/taupe of the print.  And top it off with a crystal chandelier over the bed for a touch of elegance

A few examples of the lighting I want for over the bed in the master....

Both are from overstock.com, the top is about 250 and the bottom is only 120!  I think that's a bargain for how beautiful they look!

  1. The garage door and view look great! Another blogger was trying to determine if she preferred the elliptical (arched on top) or non-elliptical windows for the the carriage-style garage door. Did you request which one you received? Do all the garage doors in your community have the elliptical style windows for the garage?

    1. We didn't have a choice in our neighborhood, all of the doors are the same. I like the "eyebrow" arch as our SR calls it. Normally, I'm all about linear design and straight lines but for some reason that I can't really explain, the arched just look more fresh and new than the square, but I think it may depend on your style of house, we are going with the craftsman, which is typically very simple in design with lots of straight lines but the soilder stone arch above the window on the main floor I think ties it all in together. I'm just glad we are getting these upgraded doors, in my parent's neighborhood, they go the basic doors with no windows

    2. Thanks for clarifying. We have seen both window styles in the community we're building (they're standard) and prefer the arched style as well.

Can't wait to see your selections together once their installed!

  2. Wow Rachael your house is really coming along! I really like the wooded area behind the houses. Thanks so much for the peek of my house. I haven't been by there since our pre-drywall meeting. I am meeting my realtor there tomorrow during lunch, she wants to see the progress. I love the chandeliers!

Time is flying by! Do you have any recommendations for movers? I have gotten three estimates so far.

    1. Well, since we have pretty muhc NO furniture we are moving outsevles :) I've done it about 15 times so I'm a pro by now! But my neighbors (who I haven't met yet but they just moved in to the yellow/tan Rome model next to me) used Two Men and a Truck, I've heard good reviews about them and they seem to be pretty affordable. I would get quotes from a few companies though just to be safe! Did you get your closing date yet? We haven't got a firm date yet, should be mid-end of May.

    2. Wow, and I just realized how TERRIBLE my spelling was on that one! LOL I had like 3 cups of coffee this AM already so I'm pretty jittery and I think it's affecting my typing skills!

  3. Thanks! I forgot about them. One more estimate won't hurt. We won't have a lot either. We are giving some our furniture to the Salvation Army since they will pick it up at no cost, yay! It is that dang basement, eight years of stuff. My mom is coming over this weekend to help me with that craziness!

We are closing May 6th. Just confirmed it with NVR today.

    1. We have mostly boxes, alot at my parents too but nothing we need now, we are going to sell our living room furniture on craigslist and our bedroom furniture, I may be able to get 10 bucks out of it, lol it was a CL special my dad found for $35 and repainted for me in college! I haven't wanted to buy anything until we were in the house of our dreams, so it's going to be a fun process furnishing and an easier process moving! I'm thinking that we will probably close about 2 weeks after you then since I think our construction started 2 week after yours, can't believe it's coming up so fast, May 6th will be here before you know it!

    2. That is good you won't have that expense. Hey 10 bucks towards one of those chandeliers! It all helps. It is so funny because now when I want to buy a new purse, or these sunglasses I have my eye on I just think, nope that is ceiling fan or money towards something for the house. Funny how that happens. You should be right behind us. PM will probably give you the date during pre-drywall, that is when he told us.

    3. You're so right! My thinking has changed about money now that we are building this house, I went to the Limited this weekend and bought a ton because it was 50% off but now I feel so guilty because I could have bought that chandelier with the money!!! I will be wearing potatoe sacks but my house will be so stylish! LOL

    4. LOL! Well they were 50% off so I wouldn't feel too guilty, hahaha. But I understand, I may be wearing the same things over and over again for awhile!

Hey FYI - I mentioned I may check out Sheely's. I wanted to know the delivery charge before I made the trip. It is a flat 50.00 per delivery per trip. I know you have a house to furnish too :-), so another option.

    5. I looked up the cahrge after you suggested I check them out, $50 isn't bad at all! I haven't found anything around here I like so I think I'm going to check them out here this weekend or next!

    6. I may see you there I plan on going the 13th, or 20th. Prices seem reasonable, I have inquired about a couple items. I'm going to take the floor plan with me, I think that will help. No 50.00 is not bad, especially being about an hour away.

  4. You all really did pick a beautiful lot.

Gotta love Restoration Hardware - but I agree that you could create a really pretty custom look with coordinating shams you find elsewhere (and you'll save yourself some money in the process).

  5. Your lot is so nice! I love the views from the top of the hill. You might want to take a look at http://arcadianhome.com/p/lighting.aspx
I found my daughter chandelier there and the prices weren't too bad.

  6. I love the garage doors! Your house is coming along. I haven't bought a new comforter set until I get a new bedroom set. I just think those things go together! Happy Shopping!

    1. I was gonig to wait to buy the bedding originally but since it was on sale and it's so nuetral and I have an idea of what I want for furniture for the bedroom I took a risk and bought it, but I can always return or exchange, which with my track record with buying bedding, that will probably happen! lol
